Tattoo News Stories
Cancer patient Steve Barnes has devised a novel way to raise money for research into the disease that he is currently fighting.
Steve, 30, from Arbroath in Scotland, who was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer in December 2006 plans to sell tattoo space on his body as a way of showing his gratitude to those who help him raise money for research into the disease.
"I started treatment in February this year and had my last chemo at this point on June 15. I had the results of my latest CT scan on July 3 and the results are very good with all my tumours shrinking down more than the doctors even thought possible." he explains.
Mr Barnes has already managed to raise more than £500 for Cancer Research UK after participating in the Edinburgh 10 kilometre run in May this year, just days after completing a course of combined chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment.
However, he hopes that his latest fundraising idea will raise even more money for research into cancer, at the same time as creating a personal tribute to those who support his venture.
"My new idea is to auction 50 spaces for people to have their names tattooed on me" he explains "This will be done as a blind auction with bids starting at £10, with the top 50 bids having their names tattooed on me".
The tattoos will be regular signature size, although at present Steve hasn't decided where to place them on his body.
As a gesture of support the tattoo studio Metalurgy in Dock Street, Dundee has agreed to do the work for free.
